Hey everyone, we’re back with our monthly SciADV Fan Showcase! If you missed it, last month’s showcase can be found here. This month, we have something special in store for you.
Connichi Showcase
Connichi is one of Germany’s largest and most-visited anime/Japanese media conventions. As you may or may not know, I and several other community members are very active in the German convention scene, and we often use these events as opportunities to share our love for the Science Adventure series in some way.
At this year’s convention—which took place in September, in a town called Kassel—we went all out with our SciADV enthusiasm, and the fruits of our labor are showcased below.
Steins;Gate Cosplay
On Friday, we started the convention off with what is probably the largest Steins;Gate/Steins;Gate 0 cosplay group that I’ve ever seen.
Because Connichi was being held so close to the end of Steins;Gate 0’s airing, I knew that it would be a great idea to organize a group to commemorate that. I had previously cosplayed and had pictures taken of my Steins;Gate 0 Okabe cosplay, but it was very difficult to find other 0 cosplayers in the area prior to the airing of the Steins;Gate 0 anime adaptation.
For Connichi, I asked all of my SciADV-loving friends (who were just as excited as I was!) to join me, and our small crew quickly grew from a simple Steins;Gate 0 group into a general Steins;Gate meet-up, because the amount of interest was massive.
It was absolutely amazing to see so much love for Steins;Gate and SciADV in general! We were super lucky to have my good friend and excellent photographer reiserFS (also a huge SciADV fan) take the amazing photos shown below. I’m still in awe over the fact that we managed to gather such a large group, it was a pleasure to meet everyone.
Science Adventure Panel
The Steins;Gate meet-up wasn’t the only SciADV event we had planned for Friday. In my endeavor to share my passion with others, I’ve also begun to hold SciADV panels at various conventions.
For the interested, there is a recording of the panel below (in German). The main focus of this panel was “Science Adventure—more than just Steins;Gate”. Generally, I interacted with the audience and showed them that the elements of Steins;Gate that they came to love could also be found in the series’ other titles. The aim, in short, was to show that despite some of the series’ subpar adaptations, the visual novels of the series are nothing short of amazing, and definitely deserve a fair chance.
The timing really played in my favour, as the attendee turnout was impressive. I felt very lucky to be able to talk to such a great audience about the series for an hour. Hopefully, I’ll be able to do it again at an English-speaking event in the future!
Occultic;Nine Cosplay
Last, but definitely not least, we organized an Occultic;Nine cosplay group for Saturday. I’ve always wanted to cosplay as Sarai Hashigami ever since I watched the anime in 2016, so getting together with my friends for this was a personal dream come true. We weren’t able to assemble the full cast for this convention, but that didn’t hinder our enjoyment at all.
Aesthetically, Occultic;Nine is probably my favourite SciADV entry, and I can’t wait to hopefully do another Occultic;Nine photoshoot someday with the missing members! Special thanks again to reiserFS for his time, and these beautiful shots. You can also check out his website for more of his work!
Our typical fan showcase format features three community members and their outstanding SciADV fan content. This month, we took a different approach and only featured one topic, since there was so much that I wanted to cover. We’ll be back to the regular format next month, so stay tuned!
