Via gamebiz.jp, MAGES., the company in charge of the Science Adventure series and various other fictional franchises, has been bought out by COLOPL, a Japanese company focused on the production of mobile games and virtual reality services.
According to the article, COLOPL will acquire MAGES. in its entirety on April 3, 2020. The company’s shares were acquired for a little over 1.6 billion yen, or roughly 15 million US dollars.
This news follows MAGES.’ recent independence from its former parent company, Dwango, just eight months ago in July of 2019. As of now, it appears as though COLOPL will preside over MAGES.’ content creation.
What this means for the future of the Science Adventure series is currently not clear. According to a statement made in the announcement article, it appears as though COLOPL intends to use MAGES.’ IPs to strengthen their competitiveness in the mobile game industry.
