Announced yesterday via their official website, Sony Interactive Entertainment will be disabling PayPal, credit card, and debit card payment options for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita games beginning October 27, 2021.
This new policy will affect both the Japanese and western PlayStation storefronts; while wallet funds and gift cards will remain options for making most purchases for the affected platforms, this update comes with an additional stipulation for those using the Japanese storefront: digital PlayStation 3 and Vita games rated CERO Z, the highest rating for games with mature content, will no longer be officially acquirable.
As an unfortunate consequence, some CERO Z-rated versions of Chaos;Head NoAH and Chaos;Child will no longer be available to purchase on the Japanese PlayStation storefront when the new policy goes into effect. These versions are:
- Chaos;Head NoAH – PlayStation Vita digital release
- Chaos;Child – PlayStation Vita digital release
- Chaos;Child – PlayStation 3 digital release
Although Chaos;Child will be losing two of its digital release platforms, the game will still be available via its digital and physical PlayStation 4 and Steam releases, the latter of which contains Japanese-language support. Physical copies of the PlayStation 3 and Vita versions of the game will also continue to be playable.
The arguably larger loss is the digital release of Chaos;Head NoAH on PlayStation Vita. As it stands, the game has not received any modern, official ports past the PlayStation Vita version. The Vita release is also considered one of two definitive releases of the game—the other being the Xbox 360 release—due to its lack of censorship, at the cost of a higher CERO rating.
Although physical copies of Chaos;Head Dual for Vita, which contains NoAH, will remain playable, the loss of this digital release will only serve to further emphasize the lack of and the growing need for a modern re-release of Chaos;Head NoAH.
As always, we will keep you updated as further information arises on this and other SciADV-related news.
