Initially announced in 2016, the group’s Chaos;Head NoAH project sought to provide an original English-language translation and PC port of the game at a time when neither were available to English-speaking audiences. With last year’s official localization and ports of the game, however, the group shifted toward additionally addressing, by means of a fan patch, the myriad issues found in the modern rerelease.
At a glance, the Committee of Zero’s overhaul patch offers the following improvements:
- A full translation from the ground up, over six years in the making; seeks both accuracy and enjoyability of story text, in addition to consistency with other Science Adventure series titles
- Restoration of content cut from the official port, including story-critical scenes and visual elements available in previous releases
- 150+ translated, redrawn, and typeset visuals
- Subtitled in-game songs and story cutscenes
- A wide range of bug fixes
- Restoration, improvement, and fine-tuning of quality-of-life features
- Text typography improvements
As noted by the project page, the patch is available for, and compatible with, the game’s Steam and GOG PC releases, as well as its Nintendo Switch release (custom firmware as a prerequisite); Steam Deck compatibility is also confirmed. The Committee of Zero is additionally offering an alternative version of their patch geared specifically toward Japanese players.
Lastly, the group has announced plans to host a release party and Q&A livestream on Sunday, February 5 through their Twitch page.
We will strive to keep you updated as further Science Adventure series news arises.
