The Steins;Gate community was in an uproar last week after a Japanese magazine interview stated that the Steins;Gate 0 anime would only have 13 episodes. Longtime SciADV/SVN fans will attest that single cour adaptations have not served the series well in the past.
New information surfaced today however, when the Japanese website Tsutaya listed the pre-orders for the Steins;Gate 0 Blu-rays. According to the site, the Blu-rays will have 23 episodes, and one Blu-ray exclusive OVA.
Shown above is the product listing for volume 6. What’s interesting to note is in the product’s description; when translated, the description roughly says that the volume contains episodes 21-23 and one OVA. Shown below is the description in Japanese.
There are a total of six volumes listed for Blu-ray release, and each volume contains one hour and 40 minutes worth of episodes. This may be additional confirmation that the show will run for 23 episodes, as the total runtime for all six volumes comes to approximately ten hours, excluding the OVA.
The additional OVA’s story is yet unknown. Some think it will cover the true ending of Steins;Gate 0’s visual novel, or another ending. Others speculate that it will be anime original bonus story, similar to Steins;Gate’s 25th episode.
Steins;Gate 0 will begin airing in April 2018.
